Terence Pitre joined the Farmers School of Business in 2017. Terence earned a BS in Finance from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette in 1992. He then earned an MBA from Tulane University in 1994 with concentrations in Finance and Accounting. Subsequently, he went on to work for International Paper as a Cost Accountant, Brown and Williamson Tobacco Co. as a Fixed Asset Analyst and Kimberly Clark Incas a Coordinator of Accounting and Internal Control. He then went on to obtain his doctorate in Accounting from Michigan State University in 2004. He has held tenure track/tenured positions at the University of South Carolina, the University of St. Thomas, Saint Mary’s College-Ca and most recently at California State University, Sacramento.

Dr. Pitre's research focuses on how the presentation of financial information impacts non-professional investor decision making. His research has been published in top accounting journals such as the Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Behavioral Research in Accounting, and Accounting Horizons. He is the recipient of the 2013 Behavioral Research in Accounting “Best Paper of the Year” award. As a result of his financial and accounting expertise, he been cited several times in US News & World Report. He currently serving as an Associate Editor for Advances in Accounting Behavioral Research.

Dr. Pitre has taught undergraduate, graduate, CFA review and executive courses in both traditional and online formats. He has 10 years’ experience in online teaching. He has received both departmental and university wide teaching citations in his career. He is a 9-year veteran of the United States Navy and Naval Reserve where he served as both an enlisted man and a Supply Corp Officer.
